IMAGE MATTERS

Products and people are judged by their packaging and not just their calibre.
Like it is said, the aroma and the presentation of food needs to be appealing to invite the viewer to taste the food, in the same manner what we display on the outside is the teaser for people to perceive that we are inside!

We all wish to to be seen as the one who is credible, knowledgeable, acceptable, genuine, sensible, sincere, grounded, etc. When these awesome qualities get an opportunity for display is when you create that impact and platform.
Let’s say that you are gearing up for an important day? You will prepare, be well on time and turn every page to give it your best shot. By doing all these we are trying to create the everlasting impression in the eyes of the people we meet and greet. It is believed that by encouraging certain impressions we gain valued outcomes…
Don’t we un-clutter, decorate our houses during festivals, when friends and relatives come home, we ensure our kids are neatly dressed and well behaved in social situations, we clean our cars so they look pleasing, we polish our shoes and take care of clothes we wear, accessorize our looks for an enhanced feel. Image matters more under social situations when we expect to meet expectations of others, it matters when our self esteem reflects in the way we express personally towards ourselves and socially to others.
It matters to be known and trusted for positive traits that fetch you benefits. These traits are drawn from the cues we throw from our appearance in most situations.
In social situations where we interact with words or actions or by simple presence. For e.g. A firm handshake encourages one to be perceived as confident. Others respond, react and respect us as per the image we portray. These responses are valuable as it boosts our confidence, self esteem and to a great extent our morale to do better in life.
Image boosts our relationships and creates harmony for a peaceful well being. How our family, friends and people we are unfamiliar with react and respond to us based on the perception that we have helped them create. Even things like the pen we use, our eyewear, our un-kept hair, bags or briefcase we carry, our shoes, neatly groomed hands and feet, the way we communicate to people are all few aspects that create the perception that people have of us.
Even in our professional lives, the relationships we nurture are based on what we perceive. The relationships grow multi-fold or sore from the images we are able to consciously or sub-consciously create and consistently carry forward. Taking the example of an Interview, an individual very closely creates the right clues to skilfully work the first impression with unknown people and situation. Right from the way he/she appears to the copy of their resume, the body language, posture, composure, language and expression of language are all creating the image. We are also forming an Image of the company and the interviewer, while we do that we are in the process of creating a relationship with them by encouraging a positive or negative approach based on the perceived Image.
As an organisation it is important to pave way for an appropriate Image to create market value, trust among customers, to reflect credibility, integrity, confidence on the product, good reputation and loyalty. Customers across the globe know your organisation and your product by the way you manage your image. Image communicates volumes about you even when they may not have a personal experience with you as a brand. It paves a discreet part in creating the appropriate place for your organization in the rat race with your competitors. Organizations create a niche for themselves in the market in the category of clients they deal with as per their Brand Image.
Image does not only matter, it is an appreciating asset to your career and organization in the long run. Hence it’s a priority to consciously care for it, invest in working on it so it can multiply your positive returns in every stage of life.
A conscious or a sub conscious effort, in either way it is important for us to manage our Image. This subject dates back to ancient civilizations and to the times of mythology and applies even today where we apply every skill to artistically present a person, object, art form, building, poetry, etc. which swiftly creates its path into the vast subject of Image management!!
